Introduced in the early 1900s, oil sealed rotary piston vacuum pumps have managed to maintain their popularity in many industries, especially those requiring the evacuation of large manually loaded vacuum chambers. Due to their rugged design and large internal clearances, piston pumps have the unique ability to ingest debris and continue to operate. In addition, their simple design makes it possible for on-site maintenance from valve deck changes to full overhaul.
Trillium has invested heavily to develop support options for Kinney, Leybold and Stokes piston pumps. We offer service from each of our three US facilities, a full range of new Univac Piston Pumps, a machine shop producing parts for all three major brands, as well as technical support, consumables and custom pumping packages.

First introduced in the early 1980s, dry vacuum pumps have gradually supplanted oil sealed rotary vane and rotary piston pumps in a number of applications, but most prevalently in semiconductor manufacturing. The oil free pumping mechanism of a dry pump provides benefits both to the inherent vacuum process, but also in terms of waste stream management and facility cleanliness. Although most early dry pump were based upon multi-lobe roots and hook and claw technology; dry scroll, diaphragm and more recently screw mechanisms have become mainstream.
Trillium has invested heavily in both perfecting dry pump repairs, as well as the capability to offer refurbished dry pumps that not only look, but perform like new. Our engineering team has dedicated countless hours refining Trillium’s parts inspection process to ensure your refurbished pump or pump repair is sound. In addition, Trillium manufacturers most of the machined parts used to produce our repaired and refurbished pumps in our state-of-the-art machining center, making it very easy for us fully understand the critical fits, tolerances and clearances necessary to produce a quality product that will last. Additionally, Trillium offers on-site service, start-up support, routine field service, and local delivery (where available).
Closed cycle helium cryogenic systems serve a number of purposes within modern industry, but the primary applications are in temperature control and vacuum. Cryogenic coldheads are used in a number of cooling applications involving electronics and superconducting magnets. With the addition of a vacuum vessel and condensing arrays, a cold head becomes a cryogenic vacuum pump or a cryogenic water vapor pump, commonly known as cryopumps. Cryopumps enable such industries as semiconductor manufacturing, optical coating and environmental test as they can generate environments achieving very low pressures.
Whether a cold head or cryopump system, each requires a helium compressor, helium lines, electrical drive cables and a number of accessories in order to function.
Trillium is uniquely positioned to provide a wide range of products and services in this regard, including new and refurbished cryo pumps, cold heads, water vapor pumps, helium compressors and other system components. We also offer expert service and advanced exchange from our Austin repair facility, or if you prefer to perform your own maintenance, we offer a full range of repair kits and spare parts.

Temperature control units, which include both chillers and heat exchangers, fill a number of roles within a wide range of industries. In all cases the primary role is to provide a steady flow of cooling fluid to another piece of equipment at a very stable temperature. In some applications a chiller is required, as it has the ability to supply cooling fluid at a temperature below ambient. Of course, this same role can be satisfied using a heat exchanger, however only when the required fluid temperature is at or near ambient. In many cases, the need for a heat exchanger is to simply add a smaller and more controllable closed loop cooling fluid supply to keep the debris and deposits in a standard process cooling water system from clogging or deteriorating the equipment needing cooling. A chiller also provides this advantage.
Both chillers and heat exchangers can utilize onboard heaters to broaden the range of temperatures they can supply, as many supply fluids far above ambient, which is why the term temperature control unit is likely a more accurate description of what is commonly referred to as a chiller.
Both chillers and heat exchangers can be water or air cooled. In the case of air cooled systems, the unit is likely needed in an environment lacking a standard process cooling water system, or where the existing system is at capacity.
Trillium specializes in providing customers a solution for new and remanufactured chillers and heat exchangers, repair, and spare parts for the following brands:
- Affinity/Lauda
- Lam
- M&W
- Neslab (Thermo and Thermo Fisher)
- SMC
- Trillium (Formerly BOC Edwards)
Modern semiconductor manufacturing processes continue to evolve and include the use of more and more gases requiring some form of gas abatement. Whether for protection of personnel and facilities infrastructure or to meet company or government pollution prevention mandates, there are a number of gas abatement technologies available to meet your objectives.
Trillium specializes in providing customers new and remanufactured abatement systems, on site service, and spare parts for Hybrid Abatement Systems.
Mechanical blower technology has existed for over 150 years and has proven to be a cost-effective solution to dramatically increase vacuum pumping speed. The most common type employs the figure-eight shaped Roots lobe, which is used in Stokes, Leybold, Edwards and many other manufacturers blower offerings. Adding a blower (or booster as they are often referred to) to your vacuum pump is quite economical as you can typically increase pumping speed more than 10X for less than double the price of your primary pump. Whether dry, rotary vane, rotary piston or even liquid ring technology, the addition of a blower is feasible with adequate consideration.
Primary concern is maintaining a safe pressure differential between the blower and the rough pump. Quite simply, controlling the timing and speed of the blower operation at high pressure is the key to a sound system. Each manufacturer will employ one or more of the following mechanisms to enable this:
- Fluid Clutch
- Bypass Valve
- Vacuum Switch
- Frequency Inverter
Trillium can assist in selecting the appropriate size and type of blower for your specific rough pump and application. We supply new and refurbished blowers and also offer world-class service from each of our service center.

Trillium specializes in providing large packaged pumping systems capable of achieving a wide range of pumping speeds for a number of applications. Packaged pumps always include at least one rough pump (dry, rotary piston or rotary vane) and typically a mechanical booster.
In addition, Trillium can supply pumping packages with a number of accessories including electrical control panels, exhaust filtration, vacuum valves and gauges. With our custom packages, we can design a system that meets all of your needs for both pumping speed and pressure. In addition, we can configure the package specifically for your application, as well as for the environment in which the system will be used.
Custom Pumping Packages
Trillium manufactures custom pumping packages for electrical transmission and distribution, cylinder drying, oil degassing, and other vacuum applications. Packages can be configured with NEMA-rated controls, heat exchangers, vacuum break valves, oil heaters, mist filters, and more. Systems are available as skid, frame, or trailer-mounted solutions and can be built using Univac systems or other new and refurbished OEM pumps. Retrofit and upgrade services are also available to improve performance, reliability, and safety.
With their roots in the late 1800s, oil sealed rotary vane vacuum pumps have been the workhorses of many industries for over 100 years. Available in both single and two compression stage varieties, there is likely a rotary vane pump that will achieve the pressure and pumping speed requirements for your application.
Trillium offers both rotary vane pump service and refurbished units. Additionally, Trillium offers spare parts, a full range of oil, application support, routine field service, and local delivery (where available).
